About PC Services

Almost every machine that feels finished is simply full, busy and warm. The fault is rarely fatal, and the fix is rarely dramatic. What most owners are missing is not a technician, it is a way of thinking about the thing on the desk.

There is a particular morning that arrives in most households eventually. The machine that used to wake up in seconds now takes long enough that you wander off and make tea. Windows open a beat late. The fan sounds like it is trying. Nothing has broken, nothing shows an error, and yet the whole experience has quietly become unpleasant. The natural conclusion, and the one the market gently encourages, is that the computer has come to the end of its life and it is time to buy another one. That conclusion is usually wrong, or at least premature, and it is expensive to be wrong about.

What has almost always happened instead is an accumulation. Years of files you never deleted. A long list of programs that decided, quite reasonably from their own point of view, that they should start when the computer starts. A browser carrying hundreds of open pages and a decade of history. A layer of household dust sitting inside a machine that needs to move air to stay cool. None of these is a fault. Each one is a small tax on speed, and they compound. The machine is not ill, it is loaded, and loaded is a very different condition to broken.

The most common cause of a sluggish machine is simply having nowhere left to put anything.

Every good decision about a computer starts with separating the box from the contents.

The right comparison is not what the machine cost, it is what it still has left in it.
